Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)
5.10 IEQ Satisfaction Score for Offices
This score indicates the users’ mean satisfaction with the indoor environmental quality in the building’s primary spaces. It is expressed on a Likert-type scale from 1 (very dissatisfied) to 7 (very satisfied). The score is derived from the results of the Sustainable Post-Occupancy Evaluation Survey (SPOES) by averaging the score from each of the IEQ categories in order to fairly represent overall satisfaction with the physical environment.

The Bioscience and Health Careers Center includes classrooms, laboratories, offices, and a student union. The focus of this case study is the 3,940 square foot office space, which includes private offices, enclosed shared offices, and workstations for staff that include cubicles with both low and high partitions, desks in open areas without partitions, and lab work areas. A separate survey will be conducted in the future to address students’ responses related to the classroom environment.

The Sustainable Post-Occupancy Evaluation Survey (SPOES) is a self-administered, Internet-based questionnaire developed to assess human outcomes in indoor settings. The survey was completed by the user group of the primary space and analyzed by the B3 Post-Occupancy Evaluation team. The SPOES reports document user satisfaction with the physical environment as related to various indoor environment quality criteria, such as lighting, thermal, and acoustic conditions.

See the B3 Post-Occupancy Evaluation website for more information.
